Overall

After listening a few times to the Singapurian National Anthem there was a small party at the club. But the real party started back at the hotel...

Our Bus leaves in 2 hours to Punta Cana. Plane starts in 10 hours and we will be back in Switzerland tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who supported us during this championship. It was a long 3 weeks journey and despite the finish, the team sailed very well. Now everyone is eager to feel the cool swiss weather again.

Singapur vs. World has ended

The last group just crossed the finish line of the last race today. Kids are coming in. I don't trust the tracker results fully, but it looks like it was not so good a day for the team except for damian.
Looks like for Team Singapur, every training session is a mini world championship...

Race 6 and 7

The RC did a better job today. After they sent the kids out, they waited around 2 hours for the first start. Two races with around 5 - 10 knots could be sailed. Alas many of the team had trouble finding the right shifts and pressures in the second race. 

We are now overall 7th nation and one day to go. Let's hope, that they have enough power left to bring home well deserved good end results.

No wind so far

Not much wind today. At least they let us wait ashore, so the kids can sit in the shade.
The RC told us they will make it better today. So we hope...


The race they sailed yesterday was very difficult to sail. The wind shifted a lot and was also very gusty. The team did an ok race. Still they are a bit disappointed. They want more! Sadly Wolf lost too many places on the last beat and could only finish 29th. Luckily it's only his first bad race.
Philipppe did not sail yesterday. He did his race 3 days ago. Sadly not a good one.

Heute Morgen mussten erst die Gruppen Rot und Grün ihre Läufe nachholen. Danach waren 2 weitere Läufe in den neuen Gruppen geplant. An dieser Stelle muss aber doch mal erwähnt werden, dass das Regattakommitee (RC) von Tag zu Tag schlechter zu werden scheint. Dies endete heute in einer Katastrophe.  Zuerst brauchten sie fast 2 Stunden, um die ersten beiden Gruppen überhaupt zu starten. Sie  hatten anscheinend zu wenig Ankerleine… Den Rest erspare ich euch an dieser Stelle doch Fazit des Tages ist: Wind zwischen 7 – 12 Knoten. Zeit auf dem Wasser fast 7 h. Rot und Grün haben ihren 5ten Lauf nachgeholt, sonst nichts.

Aujourd’hui les groupes rouges et verts doivent d’abord rattraper leur 5ième manche. Puis après deux manches en nouvelles couleurs sont prévues. Mais il faut dire que malheureusement le comité de course (RC) devient de jours en jours plus en plus mauvais. Ce qui a mené aujourd’hui en une catastrophe. D’abord ils ont pris presque 2 heures pour faire partir les deux premiers groupes. Apparemment la corde pour l’ancre était trop courte… Je vous sauve du reste qui s’est passé, mais le résultat du jour est : Vent entre 7-12 kn. Temps sur l’eau environs 7 heures. Rouge et vert on rattrapé leur 5ièeme manche, rien de plus.

The day off we never wanted...

Wait, that’s not how the journey started. That’s how the trip ended. Let’s start from the beginning.

Working the guy at the reception i got places for a snorkeling trip to Catalina Island. We had to be ready at 7 in the morning. After some waiting the guy at the reception made a call and after 30 minutes our car finally arrived. Since we where so late with the reservation, we had a car only for us, but mysteriously had to be ready 1 hour earlier than all the other teams making the same trip with the bus. After a halt at a tourist shop we had a bad feeling about this trip. It seemed a bit shady. And when the car stopped in front of a old house on a random street we thought we’re going to be… But then we saw the river and the boat below and where relieved. So far the mood of the team was not the best.

But as soon as the other teams (BEL, MEX, AUS) arrived with the bus and we went on the boat, the mood started to get better. After seeing the beatiful island at the horizon and listening tot he carribian music, we where sold.

The boat stopped close to the shore of Isla Catalina and everyone got their snorkeling equipment. It is not a huge reef, but it was nice nonetheless.

After the snorkeling the boat went tot he leeward side of the island where we ate lunch and enjoyed the beautiful beach of isla catalina.

Some more snorkeling was done and Camillo nearly missed the boat leaving again, because he was soo into fishes…

On the way home the dance animator girls where very fond of the swiss team and i think the kids enjoyed the dancers too… ;)

We had good fun and i think the kids are ready again for tomorrow. Now we are going to the restaurant round up the day.

The team is a bit disapointed that they didn’t make it to the finals. They could have done better and i think they know it. But we should not forget that it was very very close and still one oft the best results switzerland ever made.

It might look that we blame the jury fort the loss. It is surely not the only reason, the team could have sailed better. But watching the videos we recorded oft he races, the jury made wrong decisions. But it is how it is and we are surely not the only country with ill luck. It’s important to look forward tot he fleet race again.

So now tomorrow we have a day off (during the teamrace finals). It is already very late but i’ll try to organize a fun day for them to change their mind after so many racing days.
